Neymar Extends Santos Contract Through 2026, Eyes World Cup Comeback

Neymar has officially renewed his contract with his boyhood club Santos until the end of 2026, confirming the news personally on the club’s social media channels.

Santos also celebrated the news with a post saying: “THE PRINCE CONTINUES! The eternal Neymar Jr has renewed his contract with Santos FC until the end of the season to continue writing his story in football with the #MantoSagrado.”

Reflecting on his return to Brazil, Neymar said: “2025 was a special and challenging year, a time of joy and overcoming obstacles that I was only able to face thanks to your love. 2026 has arrived, and destiny could not be different. Santos is my place. Here I am at home, safe and happy. And it is with you that I want to achieve the rest of my dreams.”

Since returning to Santos in January 2025, Neymar has been a key figure in helping the club navigate a difficult season, scoring 11 goals in 34 appearances. His decisive performances in the final matches helped the team avoid relegation from Brazil’s Serie A, proving his enduring influence despite battling injuries.

Neymar has struggled with knee problems in recent years and underwent a successful minor operation on his left knee in December 2025. He has not played for Brazil since tearing his ACL during World Cup qualifying in October 2023. Brazil coach Carlo Ancelotti has repeatedly said that Neymar would be considered for the national team if fully fit.

The 33-year-old remains hopeful of being part of Brazil’s squad for the 2026 World Cup. The five-time champions are drawn in Group C alongside Scotland, Morocco, and Haiti, with the tournament set to run from June 11 to July 19 across Canada, Mexico, and the United States.

Santos will kick off their 2026 campaign in the Sao Paulo State Championship on January 10, before starting their Serie A season against Chapecoense on January 28. With his contract extended, Neymar is set to continue his journey with Santos while keeping his sights on both domestic success and a potential World Cup return.
