Liverpool star forward Mohamed Salah has ignited a firestorm of controversy, casting significant doubt over his future at Anfield after an explosive interview in which he claimed he has been “thrown under the bus” by the club and now has “no relationship” with manager Arne Slot.
The sensational comments came late Saturday following Liverpool’s frustrating 3-3 draw against Leeds United, a match where the Egyptian international was an unused substitute for the third consecutive game.
Total Breakdown: Relationship with Slot ‘Non-Existent’
Salah, a club legend who played a key role in Liverpool’s Premier League title win just last season, did not hold back when speaking to reporters in the mixed zone at Elland Road. His primary target was the sudden souring of his connection with Dutch boss Arne Slot.
”I said many times before that I had a good relationship with the manager, and all of a sudden we don’t have any relationship,” Salah stated. “I don’t know why, but it seems to me, how I see it, that someone doesn’t want me in the club.”
The 33-year-old suggested he is being made a scapegoat for the team’s recent struggles, which have seen their Premier League title defense stumble. “I think it is very clear that someone wanted me to get all of the blame,” he added. “It seems like the club has thrown me under the bus—that is how I am feeling.”
Exit Talk Looms Over Anfield
Salah’s prolonged benching marks an unprecedented period of marginalization for the forward, who has long been one of European football’s most prolific attackers. The current situation, he claims, is in breach of promises made to him over the summer.
”I got a lot of promises in the summer and so far I am on the bench for three games so I can’t say they keep the promise,” Salah lamented.
In a move that will send shockwaves through the Liverpool faithful, the player hinted strongly at an imminent departure, possibly as early as the upcoming January transfer window. He confirmed he has asked his parents to attend the next home game against Brighton, stating: “I’m going to enjoy it… because I don’t know what’s going to happen [in January].” This has been widely interpreted as a potential Anfield farewell ahead of the Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) tournament.
Slot Responds to Difficult Decision
Manager Arne Slot briefly addressed the decision to keep Salah on the bench for the full 90 minutes.
”We have to accept the situation we are in, and I make my choices based on that,” Slot commented, offering little in the way of a detailed explanation for benching one of the club’s all-time greats.
With the public dispute escalating rapidly and Salah’s future hanging by a thread, Liverpool faces a major crisis that could define their season and the manager’s tenure. Interest from clubs, particularly in the Saudi Pro League, is expected to intensify immediately.
What do you think is next for Mohamed Salah—will he leave in January, and what should Liverpool do?
