Breaking Barriers: Diana Pundole Becomes First Indian Woman to Drive a Ferrari, Inspiring a New Era of Speed and Empowerment

In a defining moment for Indian motorsport and women’s empowerment, Diana Pundole, a 32-year-old mother of two from Pune, has created history by becoming the first Indian woman to officially race a Ferrari in an international series. Her journey — from classroom teaching to the roaring tracks of Ferrari racing — is a story of passion, resilience, and breaking stereotypes.

From the Classroom to the Cockpit

Unlike most racers with family roots in motorsport, Diana’s path began in a rather unconventional setting. With a Master’s in English Literature, she once stood before a class as a teacher — but her heart raced to the sound of engines. In 2018, her life changed when she was selected through JK Tyre’s Women in Motorsport Initiative, a program designed to identify and train female racing talent in India. That spark soon turned into a full-fledged career on the track.

She quickly rose through club and national levels, competing in saloon car events and endurance races across India. In 2024, she claimed the National MRF Saloon Car Championship at the Madras International Circuit, becoming the first Indian woman to achieve that milestone.

The Ferrari Dream Ignites

Now, Diana is taking her racing dream global. Beginning November 2025, she will drive the Ferrari 296 Challenge in the prestigious Passione Ferrari Middle East Series, a factory-backed single-make championship that will tour world-class circuits in Abu Dhabi, Bahrain, Saudi Arabia, Qatar, and Dubai.

Behind the wheel of the Ferrari 296 Challenge — a car that delivers over 700 hp — Diana will battle seasoned international racers in a series known for its high standards of skill, endurance, and precision.

“Being part of the Ferrari Club Challenge Middle East as the first Indian woman is a proud moment not just for me but for women in Indian motorsport,” Diana said.

More Than a Race — A Revolution

Diana’s achievement is more than a racing milestone — it’s a bold statement on gender equality in sports. In India, where motorsport remains male-dominated, her entry into a Ferrari international event represents a cultural shift. She stands as a symbol of confidence for hundreds of young girls who dream of careers in racing, engineering, and automotive technology.

Her success also highlights the growing support ecosystem for women in racing. With sponsors like Aligned Automation and Ferrari New Delhi, she’s backed by brands that believe in diversity and performance.

Challenges on the Track and Beyond

The road ahead is tough. Competing on global circuits like Yas Marina and Bahrain International demands peak physical fitness, mental discipline, and hours of technical data analysis. Diana balances these professional demands with family life, training, and media commitments — an inspiring example of how modern women continue to redefine balance and ambition.

Yet, for Diana, the challenges are part of the thrill. “The track doesn’t care about gender — only about passion and precision,” she says. “Every lap is a lesson, every race a reminder that dreams have no limits.”

The Ripple Effect

Diana’s success is expected to trigger wider interest in motorsport among Indian women. Her journey gives visibility to a sport that is often underrepresented in mainstream media, showing that Indian talent can compete and excel globally. Motorsport academies across the country have already reported a rise in female enrollments, inspired by her story.

Industry experts see this as a key moment for Indian motorsport — where diversity, technology, and talent converge to shape the future.

Final Lap

Diana Pundole’s story is not just about a woman driving a Ferrari — it’s about driving change. It’s a story that roars past convention, accelerates through doubt, and crosses the finish line with pride and power.

As she revs up at the Yas Marina Circuit in Abu Dhabi on November 8-9, 2025, Diana carries the hopes of millions — proving that empowerment has many gears, and sometimes, it comes with a Ferrari badge.
