The Indian women’s cricket team entered its 3rd ICC World Cup final after stunning 7-time champions Australia in Navi Mumbai. India chased down a 339-run target against the Aussies with Jemimah Rodrigues (127*) and Harmanpreet Kaur (89) leading the way in this run-chase. India won with nine balls to spare, posting a record win in front of their home crowd.

Key summary of the contest

The Indian innings was anchored by a stellar 167-run partnership between Rodrigues and Kaur. The two kept India going along nicely after the side lost Shafali Verma and Smriti Mandhana. Interestingly, Rodrigues was dropped on 82 by Australian captain Alyssa Healy. This proved costly for the Women in Yellow.

Earlier, Australia had set a challenging target of 339 runs after Phoebe Litchfield’s brilliant century (119 off 93 balls). The likes of Ellyse Perry and Ashleigh Gardner also chipped in with key half-centuries. However, they failed to capitalize on their chances with three unnecessary run-outs contributing to their downfall.

For India, Shree Charani and Deepti Sharma picked two wickets each.

Here we present the unique records made by India.

3rd World Cup final for India

India qualified for the Women’s ODI World Cup final for the third time. Notably, India Women finished runners up on two occasions in 2005 and 2017.

1st 300-run target chased down in WC knockouts

As per Cricbuzz, India now hold the record for the highest target chased down in a knockout game at the World Cup. The previous instance of a successful 200-plus chase in a Women’s ODI World Cup knockout previously was 219 by ENG-W vs SA-W in the 2017 semi-final in Bristol.

2nd-highest score in a Women’s ODI run-chase

India’s 341/5 against the Aussies is now the second-highest score in a Women’s ODI run-chase. Notably, India themselves own the record in this regard, scoring 369 all-out against Australia in September 2025.

India’s highest run-chase in Women’s ODIs

This is now India’s highest run-chase in Women’s ODIs. The previous highest run-chase for India was 265 against Australia in Mackay, 2021.

Highest target chased down in Women’s ODIs

India also recorded the highest target chased down in Women’s ODIs. They broke the record made by Australia earlier in this tournament. Australia had gunned down a target of 331 set by India.

339 – IND-W vs AUS-W, Mumbai DYP, 2025 WC
331 – AUS-W vs IND-W, Visakhapatnam, 2025 WC
302 – SL-W vs SA-W, Potchefstroom, 2024
