Matchday 3 of the UEFA Champions League 2025/26 season saw big guns Bayern Munich, Chelsea and Liverpool claim vital wins. The victories helped these side push higher in the Champions League standings. Bayern are 2nd with Liverpool and Chelsea occupying the 10th and 11th spot respectively.

Bayern beat Club Brugge 4-0

Bayern Munich celebrated head coach Vincent Kompany’s contract extension with a resounding 4-0 victory over Club Brugge. The Bundesliga champions dominated the match from start to finish, with 17-year-old Lennart Karl making Champions League history by becoming the side’s youngest goalscorer in the competition.

As per Opta, at just 17 years and 242 days old, he is Bayern’s youngest goalscorer in the Champions League and also the youngest German to score in the competition.

Harry Kane then tapped in a goal after some clever work from Konrad Laimer. Despite being denied by the woodwork later, Kane’s goal doubled Bayern’s lead. Laimer was instrumental in Bayern’s third goal as well, passing to Luis Diaz who scored with a powerful shot just before half-time.

With a comfortable lead, Kompany substituted Kane for Nicolas Jackson. Although Jackson was thwarted by Brugge’s goalkeeper Nordin Jackers initially, he scored from close range after Laimer’s 79th-minute shot was parried toward him by Jackers.

12th successive win for Bayern this season

Bayern have started the season on a sound note, winning 12 successive matches in all competitions. They top the Bundesliga with 7 wins. In the Champions League, they have three wins. They have also won the DFL Supercup and a game in the DFB-Pokal.

Chelsea’s teenagers make history in 5-1 win over Ajax

Enzo Maresca’s Chelsea thrashed a 10-man Ajax  5-1 at Stamford Bridge. This was Chelsea’s 4th straight win this season in all competitions. In a historic feat, Chelsea became the first team in Champions League history to have three teenagers score in a single game. Marc Guiu, Estevao, and Tyrique George all found the back of the net.

Ajax’s Kenneth Taylor was shown a straight red card in the 17th minute for a reckless challenge on Facundo Buonanotte, which set the tone for an action-packed opening period. The match was marked by an eventful first half that saw five goals and three penalties.

Liverpool end losing run to thrash Frankfurt 5-1

Arne Slot’s Liverpool enjoyed a solid outing against Eintracht Frankfurt. They won 5-1 having gone behind in the contest. Rasmus Kristensen finished a fine move to give his side the lead in the 26th minute. Hugo Ekitike scored against his former side nine minutes later. The Reds added two more goals via defenders Virgil van Dijk and Ibrahima Konate to go 3-1 up into half-time.

The 2nd half saw Florian Wirtz teeing up Cody Gakpo before he made another assist for Dominik Szoboszlai.

Notably, Slot left out Mohamed Salah on the bench and was also forced to see Alexander Isak suffer a groin injury.
