India closed its campaign at the U23 World Wrestling Championships in Las Vegas with a flourish as Rohit, Jaskaran and Chandermohan won their respective bronze-medal bouts on October 19. Their victories lifted India’s final tally to six medals — two silver and four bronze across freestyle, Greco-Roman and women’s wrestling.

U23 World Wrestling Championships: Jaskaran Wins a Tough Bronze

Competing in the men’s 65kg freestyle category, Jaskaran defeated Belarusian wrestler Magomedkhan Magamedkhanov 8–5 in a physical contest. The Indian grappler, ranked third domestically, was competing in his first major international tournament in four years and made the opportunity count with a composed performance.

Chandermohan Stuns a Former U23 World Silver Medallist

In the 79kg freestyle bronze-medal bout, Chandermohan produced an important victory over Türkiye’s Ibrahim Metehan Yaprak, a silver medallist at the previous U23 World Championships. Chandermohan stayed disciplined in defence and controlled the contest to secure a 5–2 win.

Rohit Turns His Second Chance into Bronze

Rohit completed India’s clean sweep in the medal bouts, defeating Armenia’s Arman Harutyunyan 8–3 in the men’s 57kg freestyle category. After entering the medal contest through the repechage rounds, Rohit capitalised on his second opportunity to secure a podium finish.

Earlier in the competition, Rohit had also beaten Moldova’s Ion Bulgaru 12–2 by technical superiority in the repechage, recovering from a pre-quarterfinal defeat to Türkiye’s Bekir Keser.

India’s Six-Medal Finish: Two Silvers and Four Bronzes

India’s final medal tally included two silver medals and four bronze medals. Vishvajit Ramchandra More made history by winning silver in the men’s 55kg Greco-Roman category, becoming the first Indian to reach a U23 World Championships Greco-Roman final. He narrowly lost 12–13 to Georgia’s Koba Karumidze.

Amruta Pujari won silver in the women’s 72kg category, while Komal secured bronze in the women’s 59kg division. The final three medals came through Rohit, Jaskaran and Chandermohan in freestyle.

The three final-day victories gave India a strong finish after a challenging tournament. With six medals across three wrestling disciplines, the young Indian wrestlers left Las Vegas with a series of hard-fought results and valuable international experience.
