Shubman Gill scored his 10th Test century and first as India’s full-time captain at home, guiding India to a dominant position on Day 2 of the second Test against the West Indies at the Arun Jaitley Stadium.

Gill’s Composed Comeback After Jaiswal Run-Out

The day started on a sour note when Gill’s mix-up led to Yashasvi Jaiswal’s run-out on 175, denying the opener a double hundred. However, the 24-year-old skipper showed remarkable focus, rebuilding the innings and bringing up his century with a boundary off Khary Pierre amid loud cheers from the Delhi crowd.

Fastest Indian Captain To Five Test Hundreds

This was Gill’s fifth Test century as captain in just 12 innings — the fastest by any Indian skipper. Only Alastair Cook (9 innings) and Sunil Gavaskar (10 innings) reached the mark quicker. Gill also became the fastest Indian captain to score five centuries in a calendar year, breaking Virat Kohli’s record of 18 innings set in 2017.

Partnerships That Defined The Day

Gill played elegant strokes throughout, hitting 16 fours and two sixes in his fluent knock. He added 91 runs with Nitish Kumar Reddy (43) and another 102 with wicketkeeper Dhruv Jurel (44). His control and shot selection reflected a maturity beyond his years.

India In Command Of Series

India, who won the first Test by an innings, are now in full control to sweep the series 2–0. Gill’s calm leadership and consistency — 933 runs as captain at an average of 84 — underline his growing stature as India’s next long-term leader in red-ball cricket.
