India and Sri Lanka renew their Test rivalry in Galle this weekend, with the teams level 3-3 in series victories on Sri Lankan soil. India, however, hold a clear advantage in their overall multi-Test series record.
India Hold Overall Advantage
India and Sri Lanka have played 15 multi-Test series against each other, with India winning nine and Sri Lanka claiming three. The remaining three series ended in draws.
On Sri Lankan soil, however, the contest has been much tighter. Of the eight Test series played in Sri Lanka, India have won three, Sri Lanka three, while two series have ended level.
Galle Test Carries Added Significance
The upcoming series gives both teams an opportunity to strengthen their position in the World Test Championship campaign.
India have been dominant against Sri Lanka across formats but have faced setbacks in Test cricket, including recent home defeats against New Zealand and South Africa.
Led by Shubman Gill, India will now look to break the 3-3 deadlock in Sri Lanka, while the hosts will aim to use home conditions to extend their strong record against their Asian rivals.
With the first Test set to be played in Galle, the numbers suggest another closely contested chapter in one of Asia’s most enduring Test rivalries.
