Seasoned golfer Diksha Dagar will lead the Indian contingent at the 17th Hero Women’s Indian Open, scheduled from October 9 to 12 at the DLF Golf and Country Club in Gurugram. The prestigious event will offer an enhanced prize purse of USD 500,000, with the champion pocketing USD 75,000.
A stage for Indian golf’s growth
Since its inception in 2007, the Women’s Indian Open has been a springboard for the rise of Indian women golfers. Aditi Ashok remains the only homegrown champion, lifting the title in 2016, while Amandeep Drall came close as runner-up in 2022. Diksha herself was impressive in 2023, finishing third.
Strong international field expected
The tournament has once again attracted a high-quality field. Defending champion Liz Young of England and current Ladies European Tour (LET) Order of Merit leader Mimi Rhodes have confirmed participation. Past Merit winners Chiara Tamburlini (Switzerland, 2024) and Trichat Cheenglab (Thailand, 2023) will also feature, alongside recent winners Alice Hewson, Shannon Tan, Darcey Hall and Sara Kouskova.
Boost for women’s golf in India
Sanjay Bhan, Executive Vice President of Hero MotoCorp, said the event continues to inspire young women golfers across the country. “This year, with a prize purse of USD 500,000, we aim to attract top international talent and motivate more women to take up the sport,” he said.
Practice and main rounds
Practice rounds will take place on October 7 and 8 before the main competition tees off on October 9. The tournament will conclude with the final round on October 12.
