KINGSTON, JAMAICA — Jamaica’s “Reggae Boyz” secured a dominant 2-0 victory over Trinidad and Tobago in a 2026 World Cup qualifier on Tuesday, maintaining their perfect start and top position in Group B. In the other group match, Curacao narrowly defeated Bermuda 3-2 in a thrilling contest.
Goals Secure Dominance
Playing in front of their home crowd in Kingston, the Jamaican side asserted their authority early. The opening goal came in the 36th minute when Bailey Cadamarteri found the back of the net from a headed pass by Greg Leigh. Jon Russell then added an insurance goal in the 57th minute, extending Jamaica’s lead and cementing the win.
For Trinidad and Tobago, hopes of a comeback were dashed by the Video Assistant Referee (VAR), which twice ruled out goals from Levi Garcia in the 29th and 63rd minutes. Having started their campaign with a goalless draw against Curacao, the “Soca Warriors” were unable to find a way past the stout Jamaican defense. Jamaica’s win improves their historical record against their rivals to 21-15, with 12 draws.
Curacao Edges Bermuda in Group Battle
In the other Group B fixture, host Curacao edged out Bermuda in a high-scoring affair. Tyrese Noslin scored the winner in the 75th minute, sealing a 3-2 victory after receiving a pass from Tahith Chong. Chong, a midfielder for England’s Sheffield United, had a standout performance, opening the scoring in the 14th minute and netting his second goal in the 26th.
Bermuda, however, showed resilience by fighting back from a 2-0 deficit. Kane Crichlow scored in the 35th minute, and Djair Parfitt-Williams equalized just before halftime in the 42nd minute. Despite the valiant effort, Bermuda was unable to hold on. The victory moves Curacao into second place in the group with four points.
Group Stage Context
With co-hosts Canada, Mexico, and the United States already qualified, the CONCACAF World Cup qualifying format has been adjusted. The final round now features three groups of four teams, with the group winners advancing directly to the 2026 World Cup. Additionally, the two best second-place teams will earn spots in the inter-confederation playoffs.
Following the matches, Jamaica leads Group B with a perfect six points, while Curacao sits in second with four points.
