Bhubaneswar Set to Hosts 28th ITTF-ATTU Asian Table Tennis Team Championships 2025

Bhubaneswar : Bhubaneswar, Odisha, is gearing up to welcome Asia’s top table tennis teams from October 11 to 15, 2025, as it hosts the prestigious 28th ITTF-ATTU Asian Table Tennis Team Championships at the Kalinga Stadium Athletics Centre. This event marks a milestone as Odisha’s first time hosting an Asian-level table tennis championship, underscoring India’s growing prominence in the continental sports arena.

The tournament features men’s and women’s team events and doubles as the crucial qualifier for the 2026 ITTF World Team Championships. The stakes are high: the top 13 teams from each category will earn a coveted spot in the global competition, adding fierce competitive intensity to every match.

Bhubaneswar, often called India’s “sports capital,” boasts a rich history of hosting international sporting events, including the 2018 Men’s Hockey World Cup and the FIFA U-17 Women’s World Cup in 2022. This championship is set to elevate the city’s sporting reputation further with ITTF-approved flooring and cutting-edge facilities ensuring world-class standards.

Top powerhouse teams such as China, Japan, South Korea, and Singapore are anticipated alongside rising squads from South Asia and the Middle East. India’s teams, bolstered by recent strong performances and home advantage, view this event as a golden opportunity to shine on the Asian stage and secure qualification for the world championships.

Several interesting facets highlight this event’s significance:

  • This championship is a major continental platform governed by the International Table Tennis Federation (ITTF) and the Asian Table Tennis Union (ATTU).
  • Odisha successfully hosted the 2019 Commonwealth Table Tennis Championships in nearby Cuttack, setting the stage for this bigger milestone.
  • The championship venue, Kalinga Stadium, has served as home for several high-profile tournaments, and its athletics centre has been upgraded to meet international table tennis standards for the event.
  • The tournament’s role as a qualifier intensifies its importance; every match could influence the fortunes of teams aspiring to compete on the global stage next year.

A quote from a senior official of the Table Tennis Federation of India sums it up: “Hosting the Asian Table Tennis Team Championships in Bhubaneswar is not just a sporting event, it’s a step forward in showcasing India as an emerging global sports destination. We are confident this championship will inspire the next generation of table tennis talent.”

With the spotlight on Bhubaneswar next October, the city and the nation are poised to witness thrilling rallies, emerging stars, and the relentless spirit of competition on Asia’s premier table tennis stage.

The countdown has begun for five days of adrenaline-pumping team action where every point will echo with hopes of glory and qualification for the world’s grandest table tennis event.

Event details at a glance:

Dates: October 11–15, 2025

Venue: Kalinga Stadium Athletics Centre, Bhubaneswar, Odisha

Competitions: Men’s and Women’s Team Championships

Role: Qualifier for 2026 ITTF World Team Championships (Top 13 teams qualify)
