Asian Games 2026: Yash Kumar Chauhan Fails Dope Test

Indian kurash player Yash Kumar Chauhan has been provisionally suspended after his dope test returned an adverse analytical finding for multiple prohibited substances during the Asian Games 2026 in Aichi-Nagoya, Japan. The 24-year-old athlete’s sample was collected during an in-competition anti-doping control on September 27.

The International Testing Agency (ITA) conducted the testing on behalf of the Olympic Council of Asia (OCA). According to the OCA, the sample contained metabolites of Metandienone and GW1516, along with Mephentermine and its metabolite.

Yash Kumar Chauhan’s Dope Test Shows Multiple Banned Substances

The Yash Kumar Chauhan dope test revealed substances that are prohibited under the World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA) framework. Metandienone is an anabolic androgenic steroid and is prohibited both in and out of competition.

The OCA said Metandienone is a potent anabolic steroid associated with increased muscle mass, strength and endurance. GW1516, meanwhile, is a prohibited metabolic modulator that can affect pathways linked to fat metabolism and endurance performance.

Mephentermine is classified as a non-specified stimulant and is prohibited during competition. It acts on the central nervous system and can increase alertness while reducing fatigue.

Yash Kumar Chauhan Provisionally Suspended

Following the dope test result, Yash Kumar Chauhan was provisionally suspended with immediate effect. The OCA said the suspension will remain in place until the case is resolved under the World Anti-Doping Code and the OCA Anti-Doping Rules.

The provisional suspension prevents the kurash player from competing, training, coaching or participating in activities connected with the Asian Games during the proceedings. Importantly, the suspension is provisional and does not itself represent a final ruling on the case.

Yash Kumar Chauhan’s Asian Games 2026 Campaign

Yash Kumar Chauhan competed in the men’s 90kg kurash category at the Asian Games 2026. He was eliminated in the round of 16 after losing to Tajikistan’s Mirmamadov Shakarmamad on September 27, the same day his sample was collected.

The kurash competition at the Asian Games was held from September 26 to 29. India’s campaign in the sport produced one medal, with Pincky Balhara winning bronze in the women’s 78kg category.

What Happens Next in the Yash Kumar Chauhan Dope Test Case?

Yash Kumar Chauhan has the right to challenge the provisional suspension before the Court of Arbitration for Sport’s Anti-Doping Division (CAS ADD). He can also request an analysis of his B-sample, which is the second portion of the sample collected during the anti-doping test.

The case will be dealt with under the applicable anti-doping rules, and the OCA has stated that there will be no further comments while the proceedings are ongoing. Therefore, the current finding should be treated as an adverse analytical finding and provisional suspension, rather than a final decision on the case.

Asian Games 2026 and Anti-Doping Rules

The Yash Kumar Chauhan dope test case comes under the anti-doping framework governing the Asian Games 2026. The ITA is responsible for testing and results management at the Games on behalf of the OCA.

With the presence of multiple prohibited substances reported in Chauhan’s sample, the case will now proceed through the relevant anti-doping process. The final outcome will depend on the subsequent proceedings, including any challenge or B-sample analysis requested by the athlete.
