Lautaro Martinez Leads Argentina’s Rout

Argentina continued their strong start to the post-World Cup period with a commanding 7-0 victory over Burkina Faso at the Estadio Monumental in Buenos Aires on Saturday. Lautaro Martínez opened the scoring early before Gianluca Prestianni, Nicolás Paz, Julián Álvarez, Franco Mastantuono and Giuliano Simeone added to the scoreline.

The result followed Argentina’s 4-0 win over Bolivia earlier in the international window. Lionel Scaloni’s side again showed their attacking depth, scoring five times before half-time and adding two more goals after the break.

Lautaro Martinez Scores Despite Penalty Miss

Lautaro had an eventful start to the match. Agustín Giay won a penalty after being fouled inside the area, and Lautaro stepped up to take it. Burkina Faso goalkeeper Razak Guira saved the spot-kick, but Lautaro reacted quickly to fire home the rebound.

The goal came just four minutes into the match and gave Argentina an early advantage. It also marked Lautaro’s 42nd international goal, moving him level with Sergio Agüero in third place on Argentina’s all-time scoring list. Only Lionel Messi and Gabriel Batistuta are ahead of him.

Lautaro Martinez Continues His Scoring Run

The goal was also Lautaro’s fourth consecutive match on target for Argentina. He had scored in the previous 4-0 victory over Bolivia and continued his impressive run in front of goal against Burkina Faso.

The Inter captain played the first half before being replaced during Argentina’s extensive second-half changes. He still managed to leave his mark on the game, also providing an assist for Franco Mastantuono’s goal after the break.

Argentina Turn the Match Into a Rout

Argentina quickly extended their lead after Lautaro’s opener. Burkina Faso defender Moumouni Diallo put the ball into his own net in the eighth minute before Gianluca Prestianni scored four minutes later to make it 3-0.

Nicolás Paz then added a fourth in the 35th minute, followed by Julián Álvarez one minute later. Argentina therefore went into half-time with a commanding 5-0 lead.

Scaloni used the second half to give more players valuable minutes. Franco Mastantuono scored his first Argentina goal in the 57th minute, while Giuliano Simeone completed the scoring with a late header to make it 7-0.

Argentina Look Ahead to Messi’s Farewell

The victory was Argentina’s second win of the international window and comes just days before Lionel Messi’s planned farewell appearance for the national team.

Argentina are scheduled to face Benin at the Monumental on October 6, with Messi expected to make his final appearance for the Albiceleste after announcing his international retirement.

For Lautaro, the Burkina Faso game provided another important milestone. With 42 international goals, he has now drawn level with Agüero, while Argentina continue to build their next chapter around a mix of established stars and emerging players.
