Bhubaneswar : Legendary Pakistani drag flicker Sohail Abbas, now coaching Malaysia, will not travel to India for the Asia Cup Hockey 2025 in Rajgir. Citing personal reasons, Abbas’s absence comes amid Pakistan’s withdrawal from the tournament due to security concerns. His decision leaves Malaysia without their star drag-flick coach, posing a tough challenge in a highly competitive tournament.
Abbas said, “While I regret missing the Asia Cup, my focus remains on supporting Malaysia’s growth in hockey. I hope to return stronger alongside the team in future events.” The Asia Cup, running from August 29 to September 7, serves as the qualifier for the 2026 Hockey World Cup and features Asia’s best teams battling for glory. India leads Pool A, while Malaysia faces fierce competition in Pool B without Abbas. His absence is sure to be felt as the tournament unfolds, but it promises intense excitement and high stakes for all teams involved.
Fans will be watching closely to see how Malaysia adapts without their iconic coach and who will emerge victorious on this grand hockey stage.
