Sha’Carri Richardson launches season with statement win in Los Angeles
American sprint star Sha’Carri Richardson made an impressive return to the women’s 100m by winning the event at the USATF LA Grand Prix 2026 in Los Angeles on Sunday. Competing in her first 100m race of the season, Richardson crossed the finish line in 10.99 seconds, becoming the latest American woman to break the 11-second barrier this year.
Despite running into a slight headwind, Richardson looked composed throughout the race. After a steady start, she accelerated smoothly over the closing metres to pull away from the field and secure a convincing victory, underlining her readiness for the remainder of the 2026 campaign.
Fellow American Kayla White finished second in 11.08 seconds, while Tamari Davis claimed third in 11.11 seconds. Nigeria’s Favour Ofili placed fourth with 11.15 seconds, followed by Jenna Prandini in fifth at 11.18 seconds.
The victory marked Richardson’s first competitive 100m appearance since the 2025 World Championships. After opening her season with a couple of 200m races earlier this year, the reigning sprint star looked comfortable back in her signature event and expressed satisfaction with the performance, saying it was an encouraging way to begin the season while keeping the focus on improving as the year progresses.
Richardson, whose personal best of 10.65 seconds remains one of the fastest performances in history, continues to build momentum as she prepares for the major international meets later this season. Her performance in Los Angeles highlighted both her consistency and race sharpness, making her one of the leading contenders in women’s sprinting once again.
