Alexander Zverev and Casper Ruud produced dominant displays to storm into the third round of the French Open 2026 at Roland-Garros on Wednesday.
World No. 3 Zverev looked in complete control as he brushed aside Czech Republic’s Tomas Machac in straight sets. The German star delivered a clinical performance from the baseline, extending his impressive run in Paris without dropping a set so far in the tournament.
Ruud, a two-time French Open finalist, also continued his strong clay-court form with a comfortable victory over Serbia’s Hamad Medjedovic. The Norwegian showcased his trademark consistency and powerful groundstrokes to seal another convincing win at Roland-Garros.
Both players entered the tournament among the leading contenders for the title, especially with the clay-court season highlighting their strength on the surface. Zverev has been chasing his maiden Grand Slam crown, while Ruud continues to build on his reputation as one of the most reliable performers on clay.
The scorching conditions in Paris tested several players throughout the day, but Zverev and Ruud handled the heat comfortably to advance without major trouble.
As the tournament moves deeper into the second week, both stars will look to maintain momentum in pursuit of a place in the latter stages of the year’s second Grand Slam.
