Indian golfer Rayhan Thomas kept his hopes of a strong finish alive at the Colonial Life Charity Classic after carding an even-par 70 in the third round to sit tied-23rd at the Korn Ferry Tour event in Elgin, USA.
Thomas moved to a total score of five-under-par for the tournament and now trails the trio of leaders — Carson Young, Cole Sherwood and Josh Teater — by seven strokes heading into the final round.
The Dubai-born Indian golfer made a bright start to his round with birdies on the first and seventh holes before a bogey on the eighth and a costly double bogey on the ninth disrupted his momentum.
On the back nine, Thomas bounced back impressively with a birdie on the 10th hole and added further gains on the 14th and 15th. However, a late bogey on the 18th prevented him from finishing the day under par.
Despite the mixed round, the 25-year-old remains in contention for a strong finish in what has been an encouraging week on the Korn Ferry Tour. Thomas had opened the tournament with a solid two-under 68 to stay inside the top-35 after the opening day.
At the top of the leaderboard, Carson Young produced the best round of the day with a brilliant seven-under 63, while Cole Sherwood and Josh Teater both returned cards of 64 to share the lead at 12-under overall.
