Rising long jump sensation Shahnavaz Khan has been named in India’s 48-member national team for the upcoming Asian U20 Athletics Championships, scheduled to be held in Hong Kong from May 28.
The talented youngster has emerged as one of the brightest prospects in Indian athletics after producing a stunning national U20 long jump record of 8.23m earlier this year.

Shahnavaz grabbed national attention during the 24th National Junior Athletics Federation Cup in Karnataka, where his massive leap of 8.23m broke the previous junior national record held by Murali Sreeshankar.
The 19-year-old athlete from Uttar Pradesh is now being viewed as one of India’s strongest medal hopes for the continental junior championships and a future contender at senior international events.
Strong Indian Squad Selected for Continental Event
The Athletics Federation of India selected the squad based on performances in domestic competitions across multiple disciplines.
Apart from Shahnavaz, prominent names in the team include Mohammed Ashfaq in the 400m events, Nitin Gupta in race walking, and high jumper Pooja Singh, who has already impressed at senior international level.
India will compete across sprint, middle-distance, relay, jumping, throwing, and combined events categories at the championships.
