Lionel Messi has once again rewritten football history, becoming the fastest player ever to reach 100 goal contributions in Major League Soccer after starring in Inter Miami CF’s 4-2 win over Toronto FC.
The Argentine icon scored once and provided two assists during the match, taking his MLS tally to 59 goals and 41 assists in just 64 league appearances. The previous record was held by former Toronto star Sebastian Giovinco, who needed 95 matches to reach the same milestone.
Messi Continues To Redefine MLS Standards
Since joining Inter Miami in 2023, Messi has transformed both the club and the league with his performances, helping Miami win multiple trophies including the Leagues Cup, Supporters’ Shield and MLS Cup.
The eight-time Ballon d’Or winner has continued his sensational form in the 2026 season and remains the centerpiece of Miami’s title ambitions ahead of the FIFA World Cup later this year.
Inter Miami coach Guillermo Hoyos praised Messi after the match and called for greater protection from referees, saying the football legend remains “one of a kind” in world football.
Inter Miami Back On Track
The victory over Toronto helped Inter Miami bounce back from recent disappointing results and strengthened their position in the MLS standings. Messi’s influence was once again decisive, with the 38-year-old controlling the tempo and creating multiple scoring opportunities throughout the game.
Messi has now added another remarkable achievement to an already historic career that includes a FIFA World Cup title, multiple UEFA Champions League trophies and a record eight Ballon d’Or awards.
