Actor and fitness enthusiast Milind Soman has added another extraordinary endurance feat to his inspiring journey by successfully swimming across the Strait of Gibraltar at the age of 60.
Soman completed the challenging 15-kilometre open-water swim from Tarifa in Spain to the coast of Morocco on May 1, crossing from Europe to Africa through one of the world’s most demanding sea routes.
The Strait of Gibraltar is widely regarded as one of the toughest swimming challenges due to strong currents, changing tides, cold water temperatures, and heavy maritime traffic. Despite the difficult conditions, Soman successfully completed the crossing and later described the experience as “beautiful, beautiful, beautiful” in a social media post.
Sharing glimpses of the journey on Instagram, Soman revealed that the swim covered the shortest point between Europe and Africa, connecting Tarifa in Spain with the Moroccan coastline.
The achievement quickly went viral online, with fans and celebrities praising his fitness levels and determination at an age when many athletes retire from endurance sports. Social media users described the feat as inspirational, while actor Neil Nitin Mukesh and several others applauded Soman’s discipline and resilience.
This is not the first major endurance challenge completed by Soman in 2026. In April, he completed a 20-kilometre sea swim in Goa that lasted nearly eight hours. Earlier this year during Holi celebrations, he also undertook another long-distance swim in Goa alongside his wife, Ankita Konwar.
Known for promoting fitness and healthy living for decades, Soman has regularly participated in marathons, ultra-endurance events, Ironman competitions, and open-water swimming challenges. His latest achievement once again reinforced his image as one of India’s most recognised fitness icons.
The remarkable swim has sparked widespread admiration online, with many calling it proof that age is no barrier to endurance, discipline, and physical fitness.
