Mauricio Pochettino says he is “really sad” to see Tottenham Hotspur struggling near the bottom of the Premier League table.
The Argentine, who managed Spurs between 2014 and 2019, admitted it is difficult to watch the club fight to avoid relegation.
“I really love Tottenham. It’s an important part of my life,” he said, adding that he feels for both the players and supporters during this challenging period.
Tottenham currently sit 18th in the table, just two points from safety with four games remaining in the season.
Strong emotional connection
Pochettino guided Spurs to a UEFA Champions League Final during his tenure, making it one of the most successful periods in the club’s recent history.
Since leaving north London, he has managed Paris Saint-Germain and Chelsea, and is currently in charge of the United States men’s national soccer team.
Despite moving on, he admitted the club still holds a special place in his life.
Possible return in future
Pochettino has frequently been linked with a return to Spurs and did not rule out the possibility.
He said his coaching style and personality suit English football, hinting that a comeback to the Premier League could happen one day.
Relegation battle continues
Tottenham’s recent win over Wolverhampton Wanderers was their first league victory of the year, offering a glimmer of hope.
However, injuries to key players like Xavi Simons and Dominic Solanke have added to their troubles.
With crucial fixtures ahead, including a clash with Aston Villa, Spurs face a tense run-in as they aim to secure their top-flight status.
