The Clarets’ fate was sealed following a 1-0 defeat to Manchester City on 22 April, ending a difficult campaign in the top flight.
Poor run seals fate
Burnley managed just four wins in 34 league matches and collected only one point from their last eight games. A run of seven consecutive defeats earlier in the season left them stuck in the relegation zone.
Their struggles were not limited to the league, as they were knocked out of both the FA Cup and Carabao Cup by lower-league opposition.
Jackson in interim charge
Assistant coach Mike Jackson will take over for the final four matches of the season, starting with a trip to Leeds United.
The club is expected to begin the search for a new manager ahead of their return to the Championship.
Promotion high to relegation low
Parker was appointed in July 2024 and guided Burnley back to the Premier League at the first attempt, finishing second in the Championship. His side recorded 30 clean sheets that season — a league record.
However, that defensive solidity did not translate to the top division.
Defensive issues exposed
Burnley conceded 68 goals in 34 matches — the most in the league — underlining their struggles throughout the campaign.
Parker, who previously achieved promotion with Fulham and AFC Bournemouth, could not repeat that success this time.
He described his tenure as a privilege and reflected on the promotion season with pride. Burnley now shift focus to rebuilding for the Championship.
