The controversy surrounding Indian para javelin star Sumit Antil has now reached the global stage, with World Athletics confirming that the matter is officially under process.
World Athletics Vice President Adille Sumariwalla stated that the complaint filed by Antil against coach Naval Singh has been “reported” and is currently being examined. His remarks indicate that the issue has moved beyond national boundaries and is now under the radar of international athletics authorities.
Antil, a multiple Paralympic gold medallist, has accused the coach of repeated verbal abuse and mental harassment. The complaint, which has also received backing from top athletes including Neeraj Chopra, has sparked widespread concern within the athletics community.
According to reports, several athletes have alleged that the coach used abusive language and inappropriate conduct over a prolonged period, prompting Antil to escalate the matter formally to authorities.
While the Sports Authority of India has acknowledged receiving the complaint, officials clarified that the coach is not directly employed by them, though the issue has been taken up with the relevant federation.
The development highlights growing concerns around athlete welfare and accountability in coaching systems. With World Athletics now monitoring the situation, the case could set an important precedent for how such grievances are handled at the global level.
