London: Tyson Fury, aka the “Gypsy King”, has reignited talk of a blockbuster all-British showdown after revealing he wants to face long-time rival Anthony Joshua following his comeback fight. The former heavyweight champion said a clash with Joshua is the bout he hopes to secure next, raising fresh hopes that the much-anticipated contest could finally take shape.
The former world champion is set to face Russia’s Arslanbek Makhmudov at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium, marking his first fight in 16 months after coming out of retirement.
Speaking ahead of the contest, Fury confirmed that a blockbuster all-British showdown with Joshua remains firmly on his radar. “If it happens, great, if it doesn’t happen, also great,” Fury said, while stressing his immediate focus remains on Makhmudov. “But all going well, Joshua is the fight I want next.”
The potential meeting between the two heavyweight icons has eluded boxing fans for years despite repeated negotiations. Both fighters, now in the latter stages of their careers, remain major attractions and a bout between them would still command enormous global interest.
Joshua last fought in December, securing a stoppage victory over Jake Paul. Plans for a possible clash with Fury were reportedly discussed afterward but failed to materialize following personal setbacks for Joshua, including a car accident late last year.
Fury, however, appears unfazed by his rival’s recent inactivity and insists he would be ready for the contest immediately after his comeback.
The 37-year-old believes facing dangerous opponents keeps him motivated and has described Makhmudov as a serious test, highlighting the Russian’s knockout power.
Despite the uncertainties, renewed optimism surrounds the possibility of the long-anticipated showdown finally taking place in 2026. For British boxing fans, the clash between Fury and Joshua remains one of the sport’s most desired matchups—one that could still deliver significant commercial appeal and a fitting chapter in their storied rivalry.
