Payal Nag Stuns Sheetal Devi, Clinches Gold in All-Indian Final at Para Archery Series

In a remarkable all-Indian showdown, rising para-archer Payal Nag delivered a stunning performance to defeat world champion Sheetal Devi and win gold in the women’s compound event at the World Archery Para Series.

The much-anticipated final saw two of India’s brightest para-archery stars go head-to-head, but it was the young Payal who held her nerve under pressure. She edged past Sheetal with a score of 139-136, sealing her first senior international gold medal in style.

Payal’s victory is being hailed as a breakthrough moment in Indian para-archery, especially given Sheetal’s dominant form in recent years. The reigning world champion had topped the qualification round with an impressive score and entered the final as the favourite.

A Final Worthy of Champions

Both archers showcased exceptional skill throughout the tournament. Sheetal had advanced to the final after defeating Singapore’s Nur Syahidah Alim, while Payal overcame Kazakhstan’s Zhanat Aitimova to set up the all-Indian clash.

Despite the pressure of facing a decorated opponent, Payal remained composed and delivered when it mattered most, scripting one of the biggest upsets of the tournament.

A Rising Star from Odisha

Hailing from Odisha, Payal Nag’s journey is nothing short of inspirational. A quadruple amputee, she has rapidly risen through the ranks, and this gold medal marks a defining milestone in her young career.

Her triumph not only brings pride to the nation but also signals the emergence of a new force in global para-archery.

India’s Dominance Continues

The all-Indian final itself highlights the country’s growing dominance in para-archery. Earlier in the event, Payal and Sheetal had also teamed up to win gold in the women’s compound doubles, underlining their world-class abilities.

With this victory, Payal Nag has announced her arrival on the big stage, while Sheetal Devi continues to inspire with her consistency and trailblazing achievements.

Result:
🥇 Payal Nag – Gold
🥈 Sheetal Devi – Silver
