MIAMI: Bam Adebayo delivered one of the greatest scoring performances in basketball history, pouring in 83 points to lead the Miami Heat to a 150–129 victory over the Washington Wizards on Tuesday night.
The extraordinary effort ranks as the second-highest single-game scoring performance in NBA history, trailing only the legendary 100-point game by Wilt Chamberlain in 1962. Adebayo surpassed the previous No. 2 mark of 81 points by Kobe Bryant.

Adebayo produced a remarkable stat line, shooting 20-of-43 from the field, 7-of-22 from three-point range, and an incredible 36-of-43 from the free-throw line, setting NBA records for both free throws made and attempted in a game.
“This was an absolutely surreal night,” Heat head coach Erik Spoelstra said. “We’ve seen a lot of special moments in this arena, but this one was historic.”
Fast Start Sets the Tone
The 28-year-old center exploded out of the gates, scoring 31 points in the opening quarter and 43 by halftime, already surpassing his previous career high of 41 points before the break.
He continued the scoring barrage in the third quarter, reaching 62 points before eventually crossing the 70-point mark as the Heat kept feeding him the ball.
Emotional Moment After the Game
After the final buzzer, Adebayo was visibly emotional, embracing his mother before leaving the court.
“Wilt, me, then Kobe — it sounds crazy,” Adebayo said after the game. “To do this at home, in front of my mom and the fans, is something I’ll remember forever.”
The performance also shattered the Heat’s previous franchise record of 61 points, held by LeBron James. James reacted on social media with a celebratory message: “BAM BAM BAM.”
Reactions Across the League
NBA stars quickly praised the historic display. Kevin Durant called the achievement “a huge accomplishment,” noting the stamina required to attempt more than 40 shots and free throws in a single game.
Adebayo’s long-time partner and WNBA superstar A’ja Wilson also celebrated the moment, saying the performance was inspiring to watch.
With the record-setting night, Adebayo etched his name among the NBA’s greatest scorers — joining a list that includes Chamberlain and Bryant — in a performance that fans and analysts say will be remembered for decades.
