The driver involved in the fatal crash that injured Anthony Joshua has appeared before a court in Nigeria.
Joshua’s personal trainer, Latif Ayodele, and strength coach, Sina Ghami, were killed on 29 December when their vehicle collided with a stationary lorry near Lagos. The former world heavyweight champion was treated in hospital and discharged two days later.
Adeniyi Mobolaji Kayode, 46, was driving the Lexus SUV when it crashed along the Lagos-Ibadan expressway in south-west Nigeria.
Charges and adjournment
Kayode appeared at Sagamu Magistrates Court on Wednesday. He faces charges including causing death by dangerous driving, reckless and negligent driving, driving without due care and driving without a valid licence.
Prosecutors told the court they require additional time to prepare evidence. The case has now been adjourned until 13 March.
Kayode, making his second court appearance, is yet to enter a plea.
Ayodele and Ghami were pronounced dead at the scene, while Joshua, 36, survived the crash with non-life-threatening injuries.
