The decade-long association between star javelin thrower Neeraj Chopra and JSW Sports has officially come to an end. Chopra, one of JSW’s earliest signings as a teenager, announced the conclusion of the partnership alongside the launch of his own athlete management firm, Vel Sports. The contract, which reportedly ran out in December 2025, was not renewed by mutual agreement.
Chopra’s journey with JSW Sports began in 2016 after being scouted through the Sports Excellence Programme. The partnership accompanied him through some of the most historic moments in Indian athletics, including Olympic gold in Tokyo, World Championship silver in Paris 2023, and victory at the Diamond League in 2022.
Talk of Chopra taking on a more active entrepreneurial role had surfaced after the NC Classic last year, which he helped micro-manage in Panchkula and Bengaluru. Sources have also indicated that Chopra is keen to establish a Track & Field High Performance Centre in the near future.
“Working with Neeraj has been an incredible experience for all of us at JSW Sports. His success story reflects our shared philosophy of excellence and purpose. We’re immensely proud of what we’ve achieved together and wish him continued success in all his future pursuits,” said JSW Sports CEO Divyanshu Singh.
Chopra, who also serves as a Lieutenant Colonel in the Indian Army, expressed his gratitude: “Over the last decade, our journey together has been one of growth, belief, and achievement. JSW Sports has played a defining role in my career, and I’ll always remain grateful for their support and vision. As we conclude this chapter, I carry forward the same values into the next phase of my journey.”
