New Delhi: India have recalled Mohammed Siraj to the One-Day International setup as the national selectors announced the squad for the upcoming three-match ODI series against New Zealand, according to a report by Rediff.com.
Siraj’s return strengthens India’s pace department after the Hyderabad fast bowler was left out of recent white-ball assignments. As reported by Rediff.com, the selectors have brought him back with an eye on experience and consistency ahead of a packed international calendar.
The squad will be led by Shubman Gill, with Shreyas Iyer named vice-captain, subject to fitness clearance. Iyer is recovering from a spleen injury and will need to prove his match fitness before the series begins, the Rediff report added.
Senior batters Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli continue to form the core of the batting unit, while Rishabh Pant has retained his place as wicketkeeper-batter. Notably, Hardik Pandya has been left out as he is yet to regain full bowling fitness, a decision taken to manage his workload.
India’s bowling attack features a mix of pace and spin, with Siraj joining the likes of Arshdeep Singh, Prasidh Krishna and Kuldeep Yadav, offering the team flexibility across conditions.
“This series will be important in assessing combinations and player form,” a selector was quoted as saying by Rediff.com, underlining the significance of the New Zealand ODIs in India’s white-ball roadmap.
The series is expected to serve as a key preparatory phase as India look to fine-tune their squad for upcoming global tournaments.
