Vaibhav Suryavanshi’s Rise: 14-Year-Old Prodigy Honoured with Pradhan Mantri Rashtriya Bal Purushkar

At just 14 years old, Vaibhav Suryavanshi has already made an indelible mark on Indian cricket, earning accolades that many players spend a lifetime chasing. On December 26, 2025, the Bihar batting prodigy was awarded the Pradhan Mantri Rashtriya Bal Puraskar, India’s highest civilian honour for children under 18, presented by President Droupadi Murmu. The recognition meant Vaibhav had to miss Bihar’s Vijay Hazare Trophy match, but the absence underscored the magnitude of his achievements.

Vaibhav first drew national attention during the Vijay Hazare Trophy 2025-26 when he smashed a phenomenal 190 off 84 balls, registering the youngest century ever in men’s List A cricket. His century came in just 36 deliveries, making him one of the fastest centurions in history.

Beyond these headline-grabbing feats, Vaibhav has been breaking barriers from a young age. He made his Ranji Trophy debut at 12, becoming one of the youngest first-class players in India. He has also represented Bihar across formats, including the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy and the Under-19 national team, consistently proving his mettle against older and more experienced players.

Vaibhav’s talent has also extended to the Indian Premier League. Signed by the Rajasthan Royals at just 13, he made his IPL debut at 14 years and 23 days, hitting a six off his first ball. He then scored 101 runs off 38 balls, making him the youngest IPL centurion and the fastest century by an Indian in IPL history.

On the international youth stage, Vaibhav continued to impress with a 58-ball century on Under-19 Test debut against Australia, demonstrating composure and skill beyond his years.

The Pradhan Mantri Rashtriya Bal Puraskar recognises not only exceptional performance but also perseverance, dedication, and impact — all qualities Vaibhav has shown in abundance. While he missed a domestic Vijay Hazare trophy match to accept the honour, his achievements have already inspired cricket fans across India.

At 14, Vaibhav Suryavanshi is not just breaking records; he is building a legacy, proving that age is no barrier when talent meets hard work. His journey, though still in its early stages, promises a future filled with milestones and glory.
