Team Singapore’s fencing squad delivered a historic showing at the 33rd Southeast Asian (SEA) Games in Bangkok, capturing a record eight gold medals — the most in the nation’s SEA Games fencing history. This top-level performance surpasses their previous best of seven golds at the last Games in Cambodia.
Singapore’s fencers dominated across both individual and team events. Highlights included victories in the epee and foil team finals, where male and female squads defeated strong regional rivals to secure valuable golds. In the epee team final, the quartet of Azfar Luqman Ong, Bron Sheum, Si To Jian Tong and Simon Lee beat Vietnam 44-34. Meanwhile, the women’s foil team — Amita Berthier, Cheung Kemei, Maxine Wong and Stephanie Lee — successfully defended their title with a win over the Philippines.
The eight gold medals also helped Singapore consolidate its position as the top fencing nation at the regional meet, continuing a strong tradition from previous SEA Games. The team’s total medal tally was boosted with additional silver and bronze medals, reflecting depth and consistency across weapon disciplines. Asia
Overall, this remarkable haul marks a high point for Singapore fencing on the SEA Games stage and represents a significant milestone in the sport’s development within the country.
