The celebrity factor was hard to miss, with former cricket legend Kapil Dev joining the crowd along with Bollywood actors Kartik Aaryan and Ananya Pandey, adding glamour and excitement to the opening day.
The team contests delivered drama and edge-of-the-seat moments. VB Realty Hawks narrowly defeated Aussie Mavericks Kites 25-21, with Svitolina winning her singles and doubles matches. AOS Eagles edged past Game Changers Falcons 18-16, with Monfils defeating Medvedev in a thrilling singles match to seal the tie.
Despite a brief interruption caused by fans protesting an obstructed view due to the high players’ entry tunnel, the matches continued with full energy once the crowd was relocated, ensuring a seamless experience for everyone.
With star-studded lineups, entertaining gameplay, and enthusiastic fans, the WTL’s India debut set a high benchmark, promising more excitement in the days ahead.
