Abu Dhabi :The IPL 2026 Auction concluded at the Etihad Centre in Abu Dhabi with all 10 franchises finalising their squads, marking a day defined less by headline splurges and more by strategic recruitment, role-based buying, and selective spending. With 369 players available and 77 slots to fill, teams focused on strengthening depth across departments while leaving several notable names unsold.
Key Sold Players Across Teams
Among batters, David Miller was snapped up by Delhi Capitals at his base price, while Pathum Nissanka also joined DC following competitive bidding. Rahul Tripathi returned to Kolkata Knight Riders, and Sarfaraz Khan found a place with Chennai Super Kings. Prithvi Shaw, who entered the auction again, was picked up by Delhi Capitals, offering him a fresh opportunity.
The bowling market saw steady movement. Matheesha Pathirana, Mustafizur Rahman, and Akash Deep bolstered KKR’s attack, while Rajasthan Royals invested in options such as Ravi Bishnoi, Adam Milne, and Kuldeep Sen. Chennai Super Kings added experience through Matt Henry, Akeal Hosein, and Rahul Chahar, while Delhi Capitals strengthened their pace with Lungi Ngidi and Kyle Jamieson.
Among all-rounders, franchises showed clear intent to build flexibility. Venkatesh Iyer moved to Royal Challengers Bengaluru, Jason Holder joined Gujarat Titans, and Wanindu Hasaranga was picked up by Lucknow Super Giants. CSK made a strong push for youth, signing Prashant Veer, Matthew Short, and Aman Khan, while Sunrisers Hyderabad secured Liam Livingstone, Jack Edwards, and several domestic all-rounders.
The wicketkeeper segment also drew interest. Quinton de Kock returned to Mumbai Indians, Josh Inglis was signed by Lucknow Super Giants, while Kartik Sharma and Finn Allen found homes with CSK and KKR, respectively.
Notable Unsold Names
Despite the busy tables, several high-profile players went unsold. Among batters, Devon Conway, Jake Fraser-McGurk, Yash Dhull, and Manan Vohra did not attract bids. The unsold bowlers list featured big international names such as Gerald Coetzee, Maheesh Theekshana, Mujeeb Ur Rahman, Alzarri Joseph, Jhye Richardson, and Chetan Sakariya.
The all-rounders’ list saw experienced names like Deepak Hooda, Vijay Shankar, Daryl Mitchell, Dasun Shanaka, and Michael Bracewell remain unsold, while wicketkeepers Jonny Bairstow, KS Bharat, and Rahmanullah Gurbaz also failed to find teams.
Trends and Takeaways
Teams preferred squad balance over star chasing, with many players picked up at or near base price.
Uncapped Indian players continued to attract strong interest, underlining franchises’ long-term planning.
Several established internationals going unsold highlighted how current form and team combinations now outweigh reputation alone.
With the auction complete, squads are set and preparations begin for IPL 2026, where auction-day decisions will soon be tested under match pressure — proving once again that success depends not on price tags, but performance.
