The Indian women’s hockey team will enjoy the comfort of home conditions when it makes one final push for a berth at the 2026 FIH Women’s Hockey World Cup. The FIH on Thursday confirmed the dates and venues for the global qualifying events, handing India a major advantage as it continues its search for a full-time chief coach.
Hyderabad will host one of the two eight-team qualifying tournaments from March 8 to 14, 2026, marking a crucial opportunity for India to seal its spot in the quadrennial showpiece to be held jointly in Belgium and the Netherlands.
India has been clubbed with a strong field that features England, Scotland, Korea, Italy, Uruguay, Wales, and Austria. Among them, India enters as the second-highest-ranked side, trailing only England, raising expectations of a strong campaign on home turf.
The qualification format offers a straightforward incentive:
The top three teams from each event will secure direct entry to the World Cup, while the higher-ranked fourth-placed team across both qualifiers will also advance—making every match and goal crucial.
The second women’s qualifier will be played in Santiago, Chile, which will also host one of the men’s events. The other men’s qualifier is scheduled for Ismailia, Egypt.
Meanwhile, the Indian men’s hockey team has already booked its 2026 World Cup ticket after lifting the Asia Cup earlier this year, allowing them to prepare without the pressure of a qualifying hurdle.
As the countdown begins, all eyes will be on Hyderabad—where home support, familiar conditions, and a favourable ranking could combine to propel the Indian women back onto the world stage.
