Sunil Narine has entered T20 cricket’s record books. The Trinidadian spinner became the third bowler to take 600 wickets in the format during the ILT20 match between Abu Dhabi Knight Riders and Sharjah Warriorz on Wednesday.
He reached the mark by dismissing Tom Abell. The moment underlined his long reign as one of the most skilful and reliable bowlers in the shortest format.
Narine, who has 600 wickets, joined Rashid Khan and Dwayne Bravo as only the 3rd bowler in T20s to claim 600-plus wickets.
After the game, Abu Dhabi Knight Riders honoured him with a special jersey printed with the number 600, marking the historic milestone.
Narine, 37, has been a key figure for the Knight Riders group across leagues. He has played for Kolkata Knight Riders in the IPL, Trinbago Knight Riders in the CPL, Abu Dhabi Knight Riders in the ILT20 and Los Angeles Knight Riders in Major League Cricket.
In a statement, the franchise said the entire Knight Riders family was “immensely proud” of his record and called it an achievement that “may stand the test of time”.
A landmark moment. A bowler still redefining T20 longevity.
