Moeen Ali Opts For PSL 2026
Former England all-rounder Moeen Ali has announced that he will participate in the 2026 edition of the Pakistan Super League (PSL), bypassing the upcoming Indian Premier League (IPL) 2026 auction.
Moeen, 38, revealed his decision on social media, saying he is “really excited to be joining PSL in its New Era” — praising the high-quality T20 cricket, the passion of the fans, and the promise of a “special experience.”
IPL Stint Behind Him — A Return To Familiar Grounds
Moeen Ali has been a regular in the IPL since 2018, representing franchises including Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB), Chennai Super Kings (CSK) and Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR).
In his 73-match IPL career, he amassed 1,167 runs and picked up 41 wickets — showcasing his value as a genuine all-rounder.
However, recent seasons saw limited opportunities: in the 2025 IPL season, after playing six matches for KKR, Moeen was released ahead of the 2026 auction. That move appears to have triggered his decision to shift focus to the PSL.
Following The Footsteps Of Faf du Plessis
Moeen’s move to PSL follows in the footsteps of former South African captain Faf du Plessis, who earlier last month opted out of the 2026 IPL auction and committed to playing in the PSL instead.
Just like Moeen, Faf had a storied IPL career — representing teams such as CSK and RCB — before deciding to explore fresh challenges in Pakistan’s T20 league.
What This Means For PSL — And For T20 Cricket
With players of Moeen Ali’s pedigree committing to the PSL, the league strengthens its international flavour and experience pool. For PSL fans, the entry of seasoned T20 all-rounders improves the competitive quality and global appeal of the tournament.
For the IPL, the trend might signal a shift where veteran overseas players — especially those with limited auction prospects — look for other opportunities to continue their T20 careers.
