Indian javelin thrower Rohit Yadav announced his return to the top in spectacular fashion after producing a career-best 87.05m throw to win the men’s javelin gold medal at the 65th National Inter-State Athletics Championships in Bhubaneswar. The final-attempt effort not only secured the national title but also became the longest throw by an Indian this season, highlighting the 25-year-old’s remarkable comeback after years of injury setbacks.

Final Attempt Changes Everything

Rohit entered the closing stages of the competition without leading the field. However, when the pressure was at its highest, he unleashed a massive throw of 87.05m in his sixth and final attempt to leapfrog the competition and claim gold.

The performance rewrote multiple milestones in a single evening. It established a new meet record, surpassed his previous personal best, and became the best Indian performance of the 2026 season. The mark also comfortably exceeded the qualification standard for the upcoming Asian Games, making it one of the most significant throws of his career.

A Comeback Years in the Making

Rohit’s rise had been interrupted by serious injury concerns that kept him away from consistently competing at the highest level. Once regarded as one of India’s brightest javelin prospects, he spent years rebuilding his fitness and confidence after undergoing treatment and rehabilitation.

His victory in Bhubaneswar was more than just another national title—it was proof that persistence and patience had paid off. The throw marked a fresh beginning for an athlete who had quietly worked his way back into contention.

India’s Javelin Depth Continues to Grow

India has emerged as one of the strongest nations in men’s javelin in recent years, and Rohit’s breakthrough performance further strengthens that reputation. His 87.05m effort places him among the country’s finest throwers and provides healthy competition ahead of major international championships.

The throw also ranked among the best performances in the world this season at the time, underlining that Indian javelin continues to make an impact on the global stage.
