Tottenham boss Thomas Frank said supporters who booed goalkeeper Guglielmo Vicario “can’t be true Spurs fans” after a 2-1 home defeat to Fulham extended their miserable run at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.
Early collapse: Spurs conceded twice inside the opening six minutes, with Kenny Tete scoring before Harry Wilson produced a stunning 36.6m finish after Vicario’s costly error. The goalkeeper stepped out to deal with a long ball but slipped while attempting to clear, gifting Fulham their second.
Moments later, sections of home fans booed Vicario when he next touched the ball. The team were then booed off at half-time and again at full-time.
Frank defends Vicario: The Spurs manager hit out at the supporters’ reaction. “Booing during the game is unacceptable,” Frank told BBC Sport. “If you do that, you can’t be true Tottenham fans. After the match, fine. But during the game, we support each other.”
Mohammed Kudus scored in the second half, but Spurs could not find an equaliser.
Vicario accepts blame: The 29-year-old Italian admitted responsibility for the second goal. “It was a mistake of mine. I just hit it badly,” he told Sky Sports. He added that being booed was “part of football” and insisted the team had to stay calm under pressure.
Wilson surprised by open goal: Wilson said he was shocked to find nobody covering the goal during the sequence. “I was surprised none of the back four went to the line,” he said. His strike became the second-longest goal of the Premier League season.
Spurs’ home struggles worsen: This was Tottenham’s 10th home defeat of 2025, equalling their club record. They still face Brentford and Liverpool at home before year-end. Since Frank took charge in the summer, Spurs have managed just one home league win.
Pressure rises on Frank: Former players on Match of the Day said Frank now has to withstand mounting scrutiny. Spurs’ attacking output is also at its lowest since records began in 2003-04.
Frank acknowledged the team’s slump: “When you’re in a bad spell, everything goes against you. We lost this game in the first six minutes. We have to keep working.”
