Scotland’s hopes of winning gold at the European Curling Championships ended with a 7-5 loss to Sweden in the women’s final. Rebecca Morrison’s team, ranked second going into the event, recovered from a difficult start in Finland but couldn’t overturn Sweden’s control in the title match.
Late Fight Falls Short
Team Morrison had lost four of their first six games but found momentum late, winning four straight, including a semi-final victory over Switzerland. However, Anna Hasselborg’s Swedish side—who had already beaten Scotland in the round robin—took charge with key twos in the fifth and seventh ends.
Morrison, Jen Dodds, Sophie Sinclair and Sophie Jackson needed three in the final end to force an extra end but could only take one, securing the silver medal.
In the men’s event, Scotland defeated Italy 9-3 in Friday’s third-place play-off after their semi-final loss to Sweden.
