Mumbai: Following India’s historic maiden win at the 2025 ICC Women’s Cricket World Cup, the Indian women’s cricket team will receive a staggering Rs 90 crore in total prize money — a combination of the ICC winner’s purse and the BCCI’s record cash reward. The announcement comes in the wake of the team’s thrilling 52-run victory over South Africa in the final at Navi Mumbai’s DY Patil Stadium, marking a landmark moment for Indian cricket.
Historic Victory, Historic Reward
The Indian squad, led by Harmanpreet Kaur, lifted the World Cup trophy after defeating South Africa in a match that showcased their skill, grit, and determination. Star all-rounder Shafali Verma earned the Player of the Match award for her 87-run innings and crucial bowling spell, while Deepti Sharma was named Player of the Series with 200 runs and 20 wickets across the tournament.
Recognizing their phenomenal achievement, the BCCI announced a cash prize of Rs 51 crore for the team, coaches, and support staff — adding to the ICC’s official winner’s purse of around Rs 39 crore. Together, the total reward for the women cricketers now stands at Rs 90 crore, a historic sum for women’s cricket in India.
A Milestone for Women’s Cricket
BCCI Secretary Devajit Saikia lauded the team, saying, “This is a proud moment for Indian cricket. Our women players have made the nation proud, and this combined reward is a small token of appreciation for their dedication and hard work.”
Former captain Mithali Raj congratulated the team on social media, calling it a “once-in-a-generation achievement” and praising the board’s gesture as a strong signal of valuing women’s cricket.
The announcement is also expected to boost grassroots programs, domestic leagues, and player development, ensuring a brighter future for Indian women’s cricket. Fans and young players across the country celebrated not only the victory but also the recognition and support that comes with it, seeing it as a defining moment for women’s sports in India.
