Bhubaneswar: The Los Angeles Dodgers kept their championship hopes alive with a gritty 3-1 victory over the Toronto Blue Jays, tying the World Series at 3-3 and setting up a decisive Game 7 at Toronto’s Rogers Centre.
After two consecutive losses, Dodgers manager Dave Roberts reshuffled his batting lineup — a move that paid off by the third inning. Catcher Will Smith opened the scoring with an RBI double before coming home on a Mookie Betts single, giving Los Angeles a 3-0 lead.
George Springer’s sharp line drive brought one back for Toronto, but Dodgers ace Yoshinobu Yamamoto held firm, conceding just one run over six innings. The Blue Jays threatened late, stranding several runners as reliever Roki Sasaki closed out the game under intense pressure.
Controversy struck in the bottom of the ninth when Toronto’s Addison Barger hit a drive that became lodged under the outfield wall. The umpires ruled it a ground rule double, halting what could have been a game-tying moment. Despite the Blue Jays’ challenge, the decision stood after video review, leaving runners on second and third. Moments later, Andres Gimenez’s double play ended the game — and Toronto’s chance to seal the title early.
Earlier, Tommy Edman’s double and Shohei Ohtani’s intentional walk set up Smith’s RBI hit, followed by Betts’ clutch two-run single that proved decisive.
With the series finely poised at 3-3, the World Series title will now be decided in Saturday night’s winner-takes-all showdown — a high-stakes finale in front of the roaring Toronto crowd.
