The first T20I of the five-match series between India and Australia was washed out due to rain in Canberra on Wednesday, October 29. The match, which was already reduced to 18 overs a side due to an earlier delay, saw a promising start from India’s captain Suryakumar Yadav and Shubman Gill. They had taken India to a strong position at 97 for 1 in the 10th over when heavy rain forced an early end.
150 T20I sixes for Suryakumar
It was a crucial outing for India’s T20I skipper Suryakumar. The player grew in confidence as he spent more time at the crease. He scored 39* runs off 24 balls with three fours and two sixes. During the course of his 39*-run knock, Suryakumar completed 150 T20I sixes.
2nd Indian and 5th overall to achieve this milestone
The Indian T20I skipper became the 2nd player from his nation and 5th batter overall to hit 150 or more sixes in T20Is.
As per ESPNcricinfo, Rohit is the only other Indian batter with over 150 sixes. Rohit, who retired from T20Is last year, owns 205 sixes in the format. The likes of UAE’s Muhammad Waseem (187), New Zealand’s Martin Guptill (173), and England’s Jos Buttler (172) complete the 150-sixes club.
Meanwhile, former T20I specialist Virat Kohli (124) is the only other Indian with 100-plus T20I sixes.
