Nottingham Forest have parted ways with manager Ange Postecoglou just 39 days after appointing him — marking one of the shortest managerial stints in Premier League history.
The decision came minutes after Forest’s 3-0 defeat to Chelsea, extending Postecoglou’s miserable run to eight winless matches — with two draws and six losses.
In a brief statement, the club confirmed:
“After a series of disappointing results and performances, Ange Postecoglou has been relieved of his duties as head coach with immediate effect.”
According to Opta, Postecoglou’s dismissal is the fastest in Premier League history, surpassing Les Reed’s 40-day tenure at Charlton Athletic in 2006 by a single day. Only Sam Allardyce’s 30-day spell at Leeds United in 2023, which ended by mutual consent, was shorter for a permanent appointment.
The Australian coach took over from Nuno Espírito Santo, who guided Forest to a seventh-place finish last season — their best in three decades. Nuno’s surprise exit earlier this season, after claiming his relationship with owner Evangelos Marinakis had “changed,” left many fans frustrated.
Saturday’s defeat saw boos echo around the City Ground, reflecting growing discontent among supporters. Postecoglou’s departure means Forest are now searching for their third manager of the season, a situation that underscores instability at a club once celebrated for its revival under Nuno.
As pressure mounts on Marinakis, questions swirl about Forest’s long-term direction — and whether anyone can survive long enough in the dugout to steady the club’s turbulent Premier League campaign.
