Bulgaria’s Ruzhdi continued his dominance in the men’s shot put F55 category, winning his sixth successive gold medal with a world record throw at the World Para Athletics Championships on Sunday.
World record in final attempt
The 34-year-old produced his best on the sixth and final attempt, sending the shot to 12.94m. The effort eclipsed his own world record of 12.68m set at the 2023 edition in Paris. The F55 category features seated athletes without lower limb function.
Podium finishers
Serbia’s Nebojsa Duric claimed silver with a personal best 12.52m, while Poland’s Lech Stoltman secured bronze after registering 12.02m.
Other records on the day
The morning session also witnessed two more world records. Malaysia’s Abdul Latif Romly completed a hat-trick of men’s long jump T20 gold medals with a 7.67m leap, while Ukraine’s Volodymyr Ponomarenko set a new men’s shot put T12 mark with 17.39m.
A remarkable journey
Ruzhdi, who was paralysed from the waist down following a car accident, has now won gold at every World Championships since 2015 in Doha. This was his third title-winning performance with a world record.
