Bhubaneswar: Bangladesh face a must-win encounter in the Asia Cup T20 as they prepare to take on Afghanistan’s formidable spin attack. Spin-bowling coach Mushtaq Ahmed has issued a stark warning about the threat posed by Afghanistan’s spin quartet—Rashid Khan, Mohammad Nabi, Noor Ahmad, and A M Ghazanfar—insisting that their potency in the middle overs could decide the outcome.
Middle-Overs Crucial To Bangladesh’s Chances
Mushtaq stressed that Bangladesh’s batting line-up must withstand Afghanistan’s spin stranglehold, particularly during the middle overs where the Tigers have been prone to collapses. “We can’t afford to lose quick wickets and let them dictate terms,” he said, calling for focus and composure.
Do-Or-Die Situation For Bangladesh
With elimination looming if they lose, Bangladesh must win this clash to keep their Asia Cup hopes alive. Mushtaq urged the players to block out external pressure and focus on executing their game plan. “We don’t need to think about permutations. The key is to stay in the moment,” he said.
Young Spinner Urged To Find Rhythm
Bangladesh’s young leg-spinner Rishad Hossain has faced criticism for his inconsistency. Mushtaq suggested that Rishad’s eagerness to try too many variations early in his spells has been his undoing. “He needs to settle into his rhythm, focus on line and length, and then introduce changes once he’s read the batsman,” Mushtaq advised.
Afghanistan Enter Confident And Refreshed
Afghanistan head coach Jonathan Trott said his side feels rejuvenated after a short break following their victory over Hong Kong. Trott praised Bangladesh as a dangerous opponent but expressed confidence in his squad’s readiness for the challenge.
The clash promises to be a test of Bangladesh’s temperament against Afghanistan’s world-class spinners, with their Asia Cup campaign hanging in the balance.
