MANCHESTER, ENGLAND — England delivered a performance for the ages in the second T20I against South Africa at Old Trafford today, winning by a massive 146-run margin. In a display of fearless and relentless batting, the home side not only leveled the series going into the decider on Sunday but also etched their name into the history books by breaking multiple long-standing records. The night was headlined by a sensational century from opener Phil Salt, which served as the cornerstone of England’s monumental total.

Here is a look at all the records broken by England in their historic victory:

  • Highest T20I Team Total for England: With their final score of 304-2, England posted their highest-ever total in a T20 International match, surpassing their previous best of 267 against the West Indies in 2023.
  • First Full-Member Nation to Score 300+: England’s total of 304 became the first instance of a full-member nation reaching the 300-run mark in a men’s T20I. Only Zimbabwe and Nepal had previously achieved this feat against associate nations.
  • Fastest T20I Century by an English Batsman: Phil Salt’s scintillating innings of 141* included 15 fours and 8 sixes where he reached his century in just 39 balls, making him the fastest-ever centurion for England in T20Is. He broke Liam Livingstone’s record of a 42-ball hundred set in 2021.
  • Highest Individual T20I Score for England: Phil Salt’s unbeaten 141 off just 60 deliveries is now the highest individual score for an England batsman in a T20I. He surpassed his own previous record of 119 against the West Indies in 2023.
  • Highest Winning Margin by Runs: The 146-run victory is England’s largest-ever win in T20I history by a margin of runs, surpassing their previous record of 137 runs against the West Indies.
  • Highest Powerplay Score: The destructive opening partnership between Salt and Jos Buttler saw England race to 100 runs in the first six overs, setting a new record for the highest powerplay score by an England team.

The monumental victory not only gave England the momentum they need heading into the series decider, but it also served as a powerful statement of their batting prowess.
