Spain – Alex Marquez claimed a dominant victory at the Catalunya MotoGP, ending his older brother Marc’s impressive run of seven consecutive wins. The 29-year-old’s win on his home circuit means Marc Marquez, who finished second, will have to wait to clinch his seventh world title. Alex’s second career victory and second of the season puts him 182 points behind his brother in the overall standings. Enea Bastianini rounded out the podium in third.
A Race of Redemption
After a frustrating crash in the Sprint race the previous day while in the lead, Alex Marquez was determined to make a statement. Though Marc initially took the lead at the start, Alex fought back on the fourth lap, overtaking his brother and building a lead he held for the rest of the race. Alex’s strategic riding allowed him to manage his tires and maintain a comfortable gap, ultimately finishing 1.740 seconds ahead of his brother.
Marc Marquez’s Title Hopes Delayed
Marc Marquez, who leads the overall standings with 487 points, was unable to secure the championship at this event. The earliest he can now clinch the title is at the Japanese MotoGP on September 28. Despite the loss, the two brothers celebrated together in front of a thrilled home crowd. Meanwhile, other riders had mixed results: Pedro Acosta struggled with his tire choice, while Francesco Bagnaia had an encouraging performance, climbing from a 21st-place start to finish seventh.
