BIRMINGHAM, England — Aston Villa is looking to make a splash on Deadline Day, exploring a potential deal for Manchester United forward Jadon Sancho. While the Manchester club would prefer to offload the player on a permanent basis, discussions are currently centered around a loan agreement.
The 25-year-old was a high-profile signing for United in 2021, joining the club for £73 million from Borussia Dortmund. However, his time at Old Trafford has been difficult, leading to a loan spell at Chelsea last season.
A Winding Path to the West Midlands
Sancho’s journey has been complicated by his high salary. His loan at Chelsea ended with the London club paying a £5 million penalty to get out of a permanent obligation to sign him, as they were unable to come to an agreement on personal terms.
In recent months, a number of other clubs have shown interest in the English forward. Sky Sports has reported that Serie A giants Roma, Napoli, and Juventus have all held talks this summer, but a move has never materialized. With the Premier League transfer window closing, there’s still a chance Sancho could remain at United.
However, there are still options for the player if a deal with Villa falls through. The transfer windows in Turkey and Saudi Arabia remain open until September 11 and 12, respectively. If Sancho were to secure a loan move to Aston Villa, he would follow in the footsteps of Marcus Rashford, who also spent time on loan in the Midlands last season.
