Winston-Salem, USA – American tennis star Sebastian Korda continued his impressive return from injury on Thursday, defeating Serbia’s Miomir Kecmanovic with a dominant 6-1, 6-4 victory to reach the semifinals of the ATP hardcourt tournament in Winston-Salem, North Carolina.
The 25-year-old, who has been sidelined since Roland Garros with a stress fracture in his right shin, showed no signs of rust as he prepares for the US Open. This win improves his head-to-head record against Kecmanovic to 2-1.
Korda, seeded 11th, is set to face Hungary’s Marton Fucsovics in the semifinals, who secured his spot by beating Spain’s Jaume Munar 7-5, 6-3. Mpetshi Perricard Overcomes Medjedovic, Rain Halts Final Match
In another quarterfinal matchup, France’s Giovanni Mpetshi Perricard fought his way to a 7-6 (10/8), 6-2 victory over Serbia’s Hamad Medjedovic. The 22-year-old Frenchman showed remarkable grit, battling back from a 1-5 deficit in the first-set tiebreaker to save four set points and take the set. He then dominated the second set, finishing the match with 15 aces.
Mpetshi Perricard will now await the winner of the final quarterfinal match, which was suspended due to rain. The match between China’s Bu Yunchaokete and the Netherlands’ Botic van de Zandschulp was halted with van de Zandschulp leading 6-3, 4-3, and play was called off for the day.
