Indian shooter Anant Jeet Singh Naruka claimed his maiden individual gold medal at the Asian Championships, edging Kuwait’s Mansour Al Rashidi 57-56 in a tense men’s skeet final on Wednesday.
First Individual Gold
The 27-year-old, an Asian Games silver medallist, had earlier won team and mixed team gold at the 2023 edition. He qualified second with a score of 119, just one point behind Kuwait’s Abdulaziz Alsaad. Al Rashidi finished third in qualification before pushing Naruka to the limit in the final. Qatar’s Al-Ishaq Ali Ahmed took the bronze with 43.
Chaudhary-Suruchi Add Bronze
Earlier in the day, Saurabh Chaudhary and teenager Suruchi Inder Singh bagged the 10m air pistol mixed team bronze after a 17-9 win over Chinese Taipei. The Indian duo had entered the medal round in fifth place with a combined qualification score of 578.
Suruchi Shines Again
Suruchi, who has already collected four World Cup gold medals this season, impressed in qualification with a perfect 100 in the opening series. In the bronze match, her precision proved decisive, with six shots above 10.4.
Junior Pair Grabs Gold
India also tasted success in the junior category. Vanshika Chaudhary and Gavin Anthony clinched the 10m air pistol mixed team gold after edging South Korea’s Kim Yejin and Kim Dooyeon 16-14. The Indian pair finished second in qualification, with Gavin shooting 296 and Vanshika 282.
